Ontogeny (2022) is a series of three ceramic vessels exploring personal development, transformation and the construction of self. Taking its starting point from the idea of ontogeny the development of an individual through growth and change the works reflect on my own physical, emotional, creative and spiritual development.

Created as part of a personal ritual, the three vessels form a progression from origin, to becoming, to identity. Female reproductive anatomy references the physical beginnings of life; a small ceramic figure represents the self in the process of forming; while the final vessel contains fragments of childhood, creativity, memory and cultural influence.

Runes weave throughout the series as a language of ritual, intuition and spiritual awakening. Together, the vessels consider how we become who we are, shaped by our bodies, experiences, memories, beliefs and the things we carry with us.
